The final scheduled public workshop aimed at creating a South Waterfront Vision and Action Plan will kick-off with an Open House on Thursday, Feb. 2 at Kerbela Temple, 315 Mimosa Ave.
Citizens will be able to view drawings maps and the three-dimensional model beginning at 5 p.m. and talk with members of the consultant team before the presentation of the plan at 6 p.m."The participation of Knoxville citizens is so important - and will continue to be - as we set the framework for future development and investment in the South Waterfront," Mayor Bill Haslam said.
"I encourage people to attend Thursday's workshop to see how the consultants have crafted plans based on what they've heard from the citizens of Knoxville."The South Waterfront Vision and Action Plan will address such issues as land uses and zoning; urban design guidelines; transportation; public access to the waterfront; and archeological surveys.Funding for the plan's creation was included in Mayor Haslam's budget for this year, and included the hiring of a respected team of planners and designers lead by Hargreaves Associates.
The consultants have also worked with closely with a committee appointed by Mayor Haslam that includes representatives of South Knoxville neighborhoods, businesses, and public agencies expected to participate in a regulatory or technical capacity.
