Knoxville Mayor Bill Haslam and Police Chief Sterling Owen today named Jack Hampson the Civilian Employee of the Month for February. Hampson has been with the Knoxville Police Department since October 2006.
 
Chief Owen said that Jack's roll in the technical services unit is to program radios, repair equipment, handle day to day maintenance contract issues with radio and mobile data equipment providers, and maintain existing equipment inventories. This extensive list of job duties prompted him to create a technical services database. The database has decreased data entry time, can track daily repairs and maintenance, follow videotape requests from initial order until delivery, and log all equipment issued to personnel by the technical services unit.

Chief Owen said, "Before the creation of the database, most of the logging, tracking, and equipment lists were handwritten, typed, or stored in several different places. This new database, which is ever changing and still growing, has made the technical services unit a much more efficient unit within the Knoxville Police Department." 

Mayor Haslam said, "We appreciate Jack's dedication to the citizens we serve by working, even during his personal time, to improve efficiency for the department. Not only has he improved the unit's operating system, he has saved the city thousands of dollars by creating the database instead of requiring an outside vendor to develop these programs."

Jack will receive a signed certificate from the mayor and chief.
