The City of Knoxville's Third Creek Greenway has a new addition near its Forest Park Boulevard entrance courtesy of the Knoxville Track Club.
The KTC dedicated a newly installed bench there Tuesday to honor Covenant Health for its generous support of the Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon. Covenant Health has been the presenting sponsor of the race, which debuted in 2005, since its beginning.
Missy Kane - Covenant Health's Fitness Promotions Coordinator, Jason Altman - Knoxville Marathon Director, and Councilwoman Barbara PelotCouncilwoman Barbara Pelot represented the city at the dedication and press conference and joined Missy Kane, Covenant Health's fitness promotions coordinator, in the ribbon-cutting for the new bench.
Both Councilwoman Pelot and Marathon Director Jason Altman thanked Covenant Health for its key role in making the marathon and the accompanying races - which drew nearly 5,500 runners last spring - such a success. In addition to the marathon there is a half-marathon, a 5-K run, a marathon relay and the Covenant Kids Run.
Altman also announced that registration for the 2010 Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon, set for March 28, 2010, is now open. For more information about the race, or to register, please go to www.knoxvillemarathon.com.
As always the races end on the 50-yard line of Neyland Stadium. There are significant discounts for marathoners and half-marathoners that register early and there are also discounts in the other races for early registration.
