Posted: 05/22/2009
It's time to jump in and get wet this summer. The City of Knoxville Parks and Recreation Department will open its two outdoor pools this Saturday, May 23, 2009 at 11 a.m.

Inskip Pool is a 285,000-gallon pool with two low dives, and a high dive. The pool area also features a sand volleyball court, concession stands, and three picnic shelters. Admission is $3 for adults and $1.50 for children. Group rates are $1.50 for each person. To contact Inskip Pool, please call 865-687-9919.

Ed Cothren Pool is a 275,000-gallon pool with one diving board and accessible ramp. The pool's enclosure area features two shelters and concession stands. Admission is $1 per person. To contact Ed Cothren Pool, please call 865-546-8796.

Inskip and Ed Cothren pools are the last remaining public pools in Knox County. For information on lifeguard classes, learn-to-swim programs, and other outdoor pool events, please visit www.cityofknoxville.org/recreation/swimming.asp.

The aquatics division of the Parks and Recreation Department also holds canoe tours on Saturdays through October 2009.

City aquatics officials take participants on the Holston and Tennessee rivers from Holston River Park to Gov. Ned McWherter Park/Riverside Landing. An Ijams Nature Center guide accompanies each tour to help paddlers locate and identify wildlife.

Cost per person for each canoe trip is $20. No experience is required, however all participants must be able to swim. For more information, please visit www.cityofknoxville.org/recreation or call 865-215-1406 to make your canoe tour reservation today.
