Recently, Blount County students from Union Grove Elementary toured Blount Mansion. Nestled in the center of Downtown Knoxville's government district, Blount Mansion offers history that is hard to miss. Here, among the towers of glass, steel and brick, sits a house - small by today's standards, but a mansion on the Tennessee frontier.

The mansion was built by William Blount who chose to build his mansion in Knoxville after signing the Treaty of the Holston just a few yards away from the Mansion's location.

Blount's Knoxville mansion would serve as the territorial capitol, as well as a family home. The care in construction, and the size and shape of Blount Mansion reflects Blount's position as a political figure, head of a prominent family, and influential businessman.

We invite you to visit Blount Mansion. Tours are available at the top of every hour, and exhibits and the Museum Store are inside the Blount Mansion Visitors Center.

Blount Mansion presents Tennessee Statehood Day Cultural Heritage Festival on Saturday, May 30 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the gracious riverside grounds of Blount Mansion.

Students first watched a video about William Blount and how the Blount Mansion came to be. Students viewed items from the time period that the United States Constitution was written. Students learned of the ice house where chunks of ice from the Tennessee River were stored. Students visited the kitchen and saw utensils used during the time period of William Blount's life. Students saw several artifacts from the Blount family and some from the same time period. Students ended their tour at the Blount Mansion Museum where they could buy toys, jewelry, books, and more to remember their trip to the Blount Mansion.
