KnoxAchieves is a program that provides an opportunity for 500 Knox County public high school graduates to receive up to $2000 for community college tuition. One unique component of KnoxAchieves is the mentoring program.
KnoxAchieves is recruiting individuals to serve as mentors in all Knox County public high schools. These mentors act as encouragers to first generation and lower-to-middle income college attendees. Essentially, the mentor attempts to eliminate the barriers as the student transitions from high school to college.
As a mentor, you are responsible for attending one mandatory training session in September and any subsequent follow-up training. KnoxAchieves mentors will learn to guide students through the application process as well as ensure they meet financial aid and college registration deadlines. To accomplish this, mentors will also be asked to meet with students as least once a month beginning in December.
