Mayor Bill Haslam, Sgt. 1st Class Aaron Martin - commander of the Knoxville station, Lt. Col. Samuel E. Williams - commander of the U.S. Army Recruiting Battalion Nashville, and others held a grand opening ceremony on May 5th to formally open the new Knoxville U.S. Army Recruiting Station at 9620 Kingston Pike.
The Knoxville Recruiting station serves Knoxville and Knox County and is the largest recruiting station in East Tennessee. It's part of Knoxville Company, which includes stations in Oak Ridge, Maryville, Cookeville, Crossville and Middlesboro at least. The Knoxville Recruiting Station is part of the U.S. Army Recruiting Battalion out of Nashville, which deals with recruiting in Tennessee and Kentucky.
It handles new enlistments and re-enlistments of people who have previously served in the Army but have been in the civilian world for awhile.
The station is recruiting well over 100 percent of its goal and in the current fiscal year it has recruited 68 individuals into the Regular Army and 14 into the reserves, both well over its mission.
The station moved from their old station at North Peter's Road a little earlier this year. The new station is at the site of the old Schlotzsky's Deli on Kingston Pike.
