Knox County Public Library's Staff Association is pleased to present their 2011 Knoxville Remembered calendar, now on sale. This one-of-a-kind calendar features images from the McClung Digital Collection that offer a glimpse into Knoxville's past. See how Knoxville's architecture, entertainment and fashion have evolved over the last hundred years through these captivating photographs.
The cover features a photograph of pilots posing with their airplane, Knoxville, near the Whittle Springs Golf Course in 1922. Other pictures include the first train from Louisville, KY to Knoxville in July of 1883, a Knoxville High School football player midcatch from 1930, and a look at the Chilhowee Park Amusement area from 1935 - complete with Ferris wheel and rollercoaster. The photographs range from the end of the 19th century into the mid 20th century.
Calendars are available for $10 at participating library locations, through the Friends @ Rothrock Used Book Shop at Lawson McGhee Library, and the East Tennessee History Center's gift shop. Checks can be made payable to the Friends of the Knox County Public Library. Proceeds benefit the Knox County Public Library staff. Contact any library location for more information.
