The City of Knoxville's Public Service Department is sending two vehicles to Franklin this afternoon and Knox Area Transit is making arrangements to send six Para transit lift vehicles to Nashville to help flood relief efforts in the two cities.

Public Service is sending two knuckle-boom vehicles - the primary piece of equipment the city uses for brush collection - to Franklin today and may send two more pieces on Monday.

Franklin officials had made a request for help through the East Tennessee Purchasing Association. Boyce Evans, the City of Knoxville's Purchasing Agent is president of the ETPA.

"If someone is in a bind, we try and give them a hand," said Evans who informed David Brace, the city's deputy public service director about the request.

Brace said Franklin needed help because of the volume of debris left by the last weekend's flooding in Middle Tennessee and also because some of Franklin's equipment was damaged.

KAT is working on arrangements to send the six lift vehicles to the Nashville Municipal Transit Authority because of disruptions caused by the flood.
