It's likely that many South Knoxville residents have memories created at a football field just off Chapman Highway. The field is where, during parts of three decades, the Young High School Yellow Jackets played football under the leadership of Coach John L. Clabo.
In response to the requests from the South Knoxville community, the City of Knoxville will name the football field – located in Sam Duff Memorial Park at 4060 Chapman Highway - in honor of Coach Clabo.
The naming ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 25, at the park.
Councilman Joe Bailey will represent the City of Knoxville and Coach Clabo's daughter, Linda Clabo Underwood, will be present to say talk about her father and his football legacy in South Knoxville. Some former players of Coach Clabo will also speak during the event.
Clabo was head coach at Young High from 1956-75, winning 153 games. He played football for Young High from 1941-1945.
