The Community Coalition on Family Violence and Mercy Health Partners presented the Anita Gregg Memorial Luncheon today at the Foundry.
The luncheon was a tribute to those who work with victims of domestic violence. The luncheon is named for Anita Gregg, a caring, compassionate Knoxville woman who was a registered nurse at St. Mary's. She and her son lost their lives to domestic violence on Nov. 7, 1996.
Knox Mayor Tim Burchett presented a City/County joint proclamation declaring Nov. 9, 2010 as "A Day Of Remembrance and Awareness Of Domestic Violence."
Yolanda Fairell, MS was guest speaker at the luncheon and she also presented a special learning session earlier in the day for those working with victims and others in the care giving professions. Fairell is a motivational speaker who helps empower individuals by sharing candidly about her own journey from poverty, addiction, and depression to a life of professionalism, purpose, and wealth consciousness. Proceeds from the event benefit the Anita Gregg Memorial Fund which supports community awareness, education and domestic violence prevention.
