The football field at Sam Duff Memorial Park officially became the Coach John L. Clabo Football Field during a ceremony at the park in South Knoxville on September 25.
The field was named in honor of Clabo, the head coach of the Young High School football team from 1956-1975. The Yellow Jackets played their home games on the field.
Coach Clabo, who grew up in South Knoxville, played for Young and later for Wofford College. He also coached and taught at Powell, South-Young, Holston, Fulton and Doyle High Schools during his career.
Clabo passed away in 1981.
Councilman Joe Bailey represented the City of Knoxville during the ceremony and Linda Clabo Underwood and several of Coach Clabo's former players spoke during the event.
