AmeriCorps volunteers will be hosting a workday at the Community Nourishment Garden in Tyson Park Saturday, September 25th from 9:30 am - 1:30 pm. Everyone is welcome to volunteer their time to prepare the garden beds and plant fall vegetables. Tools will be provided.

The Community Nourishment Garden in Tyson Park was established by AmeriCorps volunteers and the City of Knoxville spring of 2010. It was created with philanthropic goals and is an example of sustainable urban agriculture. The garden encourages people from around the community to connect, learn, garden, and produce healthy food for those in need. All produce is donated to Bridge Refugees. "Bridge Refugees is a non profit organization that provides services for refugees from around the world helping people adjust to life in Knoxville, Tennessee," said John Gardner, City of Knoxville, AmeriCorps Greenway Ranger. "The crops to be planted for the fall are lettuce, beets, mustard greens, collard greens and garlic," said Gardner.
