Hill Avenue Viaduct and Blount Avenue Reopened

Posted: 10/14/2010
The City of Knoxville's Engineering Department has reopened the Hill Avenue Viaduct downtown and Blount Avenue in South Knoxville after completing work at those locations.

The city is in the midst of a $1.14 million renovation project of the Hill Avenue Viaduct and had closed the traffic lanes to install a new concrete surface. Both lanes were reopened to traffic on Tuesday.

There will be some additional rehabilitation work performed on the structure but it will be beneath the deck and will not affect the roadway.

The Hill Avenue Viaduct project began earlier this year as a result of the structure receiving poor ratings from the Tennessee Department of Transportation.

Blount Avenue also reopened to two-way traffic on Tuesday as the city completed road, utility and drainage improvement work on the section of Blount between Chapman Highway and Hawthorne Avenue.

That work included rebuilding the road and slightly shifting its route and also involved replacing a waterline and drainage improvements.
