Keep Knoxville Beautiful River Cleanup Sept. 11

Posted: 09/09/2010
Keep Knoxville Beautiful and 20th Century Fox are sponsoring a river cleanup from 9 a.m. until noon on Saturday, September 11, along the James White and Neyland Greenways to help commemorate the movie studio's 75th anniversary.

Anyone interested in helping out with this effort to clean up the north bank of the Tennessee River as it flows through downtown Knoxville and by the University of Tennessee is asked to meet with organizers at Volunteer landing at 9 a.m. Saturday.

Folks who can't make it at the start of the event, however, are welcome to come by anytime between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. to pitch in.

The KKB and 20th Century Fox sponsored event is also tied to a Sunday evening, September 12, showing of Director Elia Kazan's 1960 movie, "Wild River," at the Bijou in downtown Knoxville. The movie, starring Montgomery Clift and Lee Remick, was filmed in the Tennessee Valley and focuses on the early days of the Tennessee Valley Authority.

The first 50 people who sign up on the day of the event for the cleanup will receive free tickets to the movie.
