Knox County CAC Energy Efficiency and Home Weatherization Fair Oct. 22

Posted: 10/14/2010
All Knox County and Knoxville residents are invited to participate in the Knoxville - Knox County CAC Energy Efficiency and Home Weatherization Fair. The fair will take place on Friday, October 22, 2010 from 10am to 2pm at the L. T. Ross building at 2247 Western Ave. CAC Weatherization Energy Auditors will demonstrate D-I-Y home projects that can help save money on utility bills and conserve energy. Participants will receive Energy-in-a-Bag kits to help jump start DIY home projects for energy and utility bill savings.

"The Weatherization Fair is as much an educational fair to teach people about energy efficiency and home weatherization as it is a celebration of National Energy Awareness Month" said Jason Estes, director of Housing and Energy Services, "We want residents to know that even simple things like switching to a compact fluorescent light bulb (CFL) can help save money on electricity and would benefit all home owners."

CAC Weatherization personnel will be present to answer questions about the Weatherization Assistance Program, a program aimed at helping low-income Knoxville and Knox County residents to weatherize their homes. They will also provide information about the range of housing and energy services available through the Knoxville - Knox County Community Action Committee (CAC).

The Energy Efficiency and Home Weatherization Fair will also be a resource for residents to learn about the latest available energy efficient home technologies and Energy Star rated appliances. Energy Star vendors and renewable energy professionals will provide information about new energy efficient appliances and other renewable energy options.

CAC is a PUBLIC agency serving the citizens of Knoxville and Knox County especially seniors, low to moderate income families, the unemployed and underemployed, persons with disabilities, and other individuals with special need for services. Our motto is: "Helping People. Changing Lives." To do that, CAC utilizes caring staff and volunteers to deliver efficient services to help people achieve self-sufficiency and independent living through intervention, education and empowerment.

October is National Energy Awareness Month for the U. S. Department of Energy, Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy. This year's theme is "Powering America: We're on Target - By developing renewable resources and using efficient technologies, we can protect the environment, stimulate, the economy, and increase energy security."
