Knoxville Station Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Friday

Posted: 08/12/2010
A ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Knoxville Station Transit Center will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 13 at 301 Church Avenue (at the corner of Church and Hall of Fame) and the ceremony will be outside on the bus platform.

Mayor Bill Haslam, U.S. Rep. John Duncan Jr., U.S. Rep. James L. Oberstar, chairman of the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, Tennessee Department of Transportation Commissioner Frank Nicely, and Dr. Yvette Taylor, Regional Administrator, Federal Transit Administration, Region IV, will be among the speakers.

The environmentally-friendly, 108,000 square-foot station features a bus platform that spans James White Parkway and includes a geothermal heating and cooling system, a green roof, a solar array and a tracking system that allow passengers to monitor the progress of the bus they are waiting for among other features.

Knoxville Station opens for operation on Monday, August 16.

Parking for the ceremony will be available next door in the Civic Coliseum Parking Garage.
