Sign Up Today to Become a KnoxAchieves Mentor

Posted: 08/03/2010
KnoxAchieves is recruiting its third class of volunteer mentors. Launched in the Fall of 2008, knoxachieves provides an opportunity for Knox County public high school graduates to receive up to $3000 for community college tuition. The heart of knoxAchieves is the mentoring component.

knoxAchieves is recruiting individuals to serve as mentors in all Knox County public high schools. These mentors act as encouragers to first generation and lower-to-middle income college attendees. Essentially, the mentor attempts to eliminate the barriers as the student transitions from high school to college.

As a mentor, you are responsible for attending one mandatory training session. knoxAchieves mentors will learn to guide students through the application process as well as ensure they meet financial aid and college registration deadlines. To accomplish this, mentors will also be asked to meet or communicate with students as least once a month beginning in December.

Perhaps one Fulton student from the Class of 2010 described the mentoring program best. She said, "knoxAchieves introduced me to my mentor, Charlee, who helped me get on track and kept me focused. With her help, I was able to realize that anything was possible."

If you are interested in making a difference in the lives of some very deserving but underserved students, please complete the knoxAchieves mentor application form. It is important to note that you will be subject to a background check. APPLICATIONS MUST BE SUBMITTED BY MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 13, 2010.

If you have further questions, please email Krissy DeAlejandro at [email protected] or call 865-621-9223.
