Young-Williams Offers Puppy Pet Adoptions at Half Price

Posted: 09/17/2010
As Knoxville prepares for the Gators to come to town this weekend for Saturday's football showdown between the University of Tennessee and the University of Florida, Young-Williams Animal Center is ready to kick-off its "Puppy Bowl."

Young-Williams Animal Center has 70 puppies available for adoption. In the spirit of the Vol-Gator festivities this weekend, these puppies will be available for reduced adoption fee of $75 from Friday, Sept. 17, through Sunday, Sept. 19. All puppies included in the "Puppy Bowl" event are younger than six months old. The normal adoption fee for puppies is $150.

"The Tennessee/Florida matchup isn't the only game in town," said Tim Adams, executive director of Young-Williams Animal Center. "This weekend, we've got a full roster of about 70 puppies ready to play. If your home is in need of a pup on your team, now is a great time to draft, or adopt, the right dog to fill a slot in your family."

During the Young-Williams "Puppy Bowl," football and animal fans alike can enjoy:

Tailgating at the Animal Center before kickoff, where an experienced staff with a lot of team spirit will assist adopters as they choose the right pet for their family.

Meeting adoptable puppies as they warm up in the Animal Center's Puppy Playpens 1-4. They'll be playing until they get taken out of the game - for being drafted, or adopted, to a new family. Watching the Tennessee-Florida football game, which will be broadcast on the center's lobby television so adopters don't miss a thing.

"Come in at half-time - or anytime this weekend - to find the half-price puppy that's right for you," Adams said.

Even with the reduced adoption fee, each puppy still will receive the center's standard medical services before going home with its new family. This includes spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, deworming, heartworm testing (adult dogs), heartworm prevention, a microchip registered to the adopter and flea prevention.

Young-Williams Animal Center reminds the community to please spay and neuter your pets.

The Young-Williams Animal Center is the official animal shelter for Knox County and the city of Knoxville. The center is a nonprofit organization, community-supported through public and private donations, that turns no animal away and is dedicated to the sheltering and placement of animals, general animal welfare, and public education of companion animal issues.

The Young-Williams Animal Center is conveniently located just off Sutherland Avenue at the entrance to John Tarleton Park at 3201 Division St. in Knoxville. The center is 8/10th of a mile from the intersection of Kingston Pike and Neyland Drive/Concord Street and offers animals for adoption Monday through Saturday, 11 a.m.-6 p.m. and Sunday, 1-6 p.m.
