An awe-inspiring spectacle of color, light and sound will rumble over Knoxville on Sunday, September 4, as the nation's largest Labor Day weekend fireworks show illuminates the sky with a 20-minute jaw dropping spectacle.

The 24th annual Boomsday Festival is set for Sunday, September 4 from 1:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Neyland Drive in downtown Knoxville. Fireworks begin at approximately 9:30 p.m. and will create a rumble to remember featuring more than 20,000 shells in a fireworks display and choreographed to an original soundtrack produced by Star 102.1 FM.

"Building on 24 years of success, Boomsday will once again ignite the skies of Knoxville with the nation's largest fireworks display on Labor Day weekend," said Kim Bumpas, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for the Knoxville Tourism and Sports Corporation (KTSC). "Over the years, Boomsday has evolved into Knoxville's signature event, bringing more than 400,000 visitors to Knoxville's riverfront for a day of fun and excitement. This year's event will entertain attendees like never before with the new fireworks launch location and new jaw-dropping effects that will stretch over the Tennessee River."

Boomsday.org Due to the Henley Bridge renovation, the Boomsday fireworks launch location has changed. Earlier this spring, officials from KTSC announced the launch of the fireworks for Boomsday will take place on the Railroad Bridge over the Tennessee River in downtown Knoxville. The Railroad Bridge is just west of the Henley Bridge on Neyland Drive.

"KTSC has diligently worked with Norfolk Southern, TWRA, the City of Knoxville, Knoxville Police Department, Knox County, Knoxville Fire Department and Pyro Shows to determine the best location for the fireworks launch," said Bumpas. "After almost a year of planning, the Railroad Bridge was determined to be the best solution, and we get to keep the famed "waterfall" fireworks."

Boomsday festivities kick off at 1:00 p.m. on Neyland Drive with entertainment and food throughout the afternoon. This year's festival will feature a Family Fun Zone with inflatables and games; Live Entertainment on the Daystar Production Stage showcasing live music entertainment from over 10 bands; Little Debbie; and activities and contests from Journal Broadcasting, and many more fun activities.

At 9:30 p.m., the explosive action begins on the Tennessee River and, for the past 24 years, Pyro Shows of LaFollette, Tenn. has been responsible for producing the fireworks display.

New additions to this year's Boomsday includes:

Rib Eating Contest "RibDonkulous" presented by Calhoun's - Calhoun's will host a first annual Rib Eating Contest on Neyland Drive on Boomsday. Winners will receive exciting prizes. Events begin at 4:00 p.m. at the Calhoun's booth on Neyland Drive with 10-15 contestants. Frank Murphy from Star 102.1 FM will service as the contest emcee.

Boomsday Bandz - The Boomsday Bandz is a collectable armband that will offer discounts and promotions to several local businesses such as Dollywood, Bath Fitter, King College, Zaxby's, and Dragonaire, the official Boomsday merchandise provider. The Bandz are on sale at all Pilot locations . A percentage of the proceeds will benefit Feed the Need, a non-profit organization focused towards helping fight child hunger near and far.

Dollywood - During the fireworks show, Dollywood will make a big announcement. The attraction will also be giving away prizes at their booth during the Boomsday Festival.

Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, Ram Experience - View six (6) new vehicles during the Boomsday Festival and enjoy a variety of fun activities for the entire family.

Commemorative Poster - KTSC officials worked with Yee-Haw Industries to create a commemorative poster for this year's Boomsday Festival. The posters are limited edition and promote the New Bridge. Please visit the Knoxville Visitor Center to purchase the collectible poster.

For the best live view of the show, spectators are encouraged to stake a spot early Sunday afternoon along Neyland Drive. Boomsday attendees situated along this public viewing area will enjoy front row sights of the show. KTSC and KPD kindly request that spectators refrain from bringing large bags/containers, as all will be subject to security checks.

The explosive action on the Tennessee River is only a portion of the dazzling entertainment Boomsday has planned for spectators. Labor Day revelers can enjoy the show from the comforts of home via WBIR-TV Ch. 10's local broadcast of Boomsday. The event will air on a special one-hour live broadcast September 4 from 9:00 p.m. -10:00 p.m. on WBIR-TV/Channel 10 and will be rebroadcast on September 5 on 10News2.
