The Alice Bell/Springhill Neighborhood Association is hosting a ceremony honoring Charlie Haun and celebrating the newly-renamed Charlie Haun Drive. The road had previously been Valley View Extension.
The event will happen from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Tuesday, July 19 at New Harvest Park, 4775 New Harvest Lane.
Councilman Nick Della Volpe, Ronnie Collins - president of the Alice Bell/Springhill Neighborhood Association, former Councilman Rob Frost and Mr. Haun will participate in the ceremony.
City Council approved renaming Valley View Extension to Charlie Haun Drive earlier this year. Mr. Haun was instrumental in efforts to get the much-needed extension built, which makes it easier and safer for motorists to access Washington Pike and Interstate 640 near Knoxville Center Mall. The project was completed last year.
Mr. Haun has been active in his community throughout his life. His numerous activities have included teaching a teaching fourth-grade boys' Sunday school class for 60 years in addition to serving as a Boy Scout leader for many years.
