It's almost "Football Time in Tennessee", and the contractor continues to work long hours at a steady pace to have the bridge demolition completed over the westbound side of Neyland Drive by August 19th, which is just 2 weeks prior to the first Vols game.
As stated before, on August 20th, all 4 lanes of Neyland Drive will be open and the demo operations will be totally concentrated on the river spans.
The part of the Greenway underneath the Henley Bridge should be open by August 19th as well.
Reconstruction of both the north and south ends of the bridge are continuing, and you should start to see the new structure emerge over the next few months. In the next week or so, watch for paving operations on Chapman Highway from south of Moody Avenue all the way to Blount Avenue.
TDOT has a resurfacing contract to repave this section to refurbish the deteriorating asphalt. This will be a short-term project, so in light of the bridge project going on too, please be aware when traveling through the area.
If you have questions concerning the bridge or need maps or brochures, please feel free to stop by the Henley Community Center Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. or call 865-577-6988. To find out more about the project, detours, Henley Bridge history and to view the project cameras you can visit
