Henley Bridge Week One Progress

Posted: 01/07/2011
While work continues on the Henley Bridge, motorists are adjusting to the detour around the closure. Since the bridge closed on January 3, an additional five detour signs have been added to the route and an additional electronic message board was installed to indicate motorists must use the right two lanes to turn from Chapman Highway to Moody Avenue. Additional temporary curbing was also installed to alert motorists to the additional right turn lane.

Crews are also continuing to monitor and modify traffic signal timing along the detour route.

Workers have removed the asphalt from the bridge deck and all deck lighting. Crews are currently removing the concrete from the approach to the bridge from the south end entrance.

To find out more about the project, detours, Henley Bridge history and to view the project cameras you can visit www.tn.gov/henley. You can also follow the project updates on twitter at twitter.com/HenleyBridge.

Also, there will be a meeting with Councilman Nick Pavlis and the South Knoxville businesses at the Henley Community Center, Monday, January 31, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. to discuss issues with the closure of the Henley Bridge. Everyone is invited.
