Henley Bridge Week Two Progress

Posted: 01/14/2011
The detours are complete and functional. The Chapman/Moody intersection will be worked on one more time tomorrow (Saturday) to improve the turning radius from westbound Moody to northbound Chapman Highway. Larger vehicles and trucks are having a hard time negotiating the right turn and are encroaching upon the sidewalk with their back, right tires. Work, there, should take place between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. so be prepared for a temporary lane closure. It shouldn't take long to complete this operation.

The bridge demolition has begun and a large portion has been removed on the southbound approach span (Blount Ave. side). Demolition on the north approach span (Hill Ave.) side began today. The contractor has been working into the night on most days to continue an aggressive pace. Please be patient concerning the night work if you live close to the bridge. This work will probably be sporadic and not a continuous schedule.

To find out more about the project, detours, Henley Bridge history and to view the project cameras you can visit www.tn.gov/henley. You can also follow the project updates on twitter at twitter.com/HenleyBridge.

Also, there will be a meeting with Councilman Nick Pavlis and the South Knoxville businesses at the Henley Community Center, Monday, January 31, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. to discuss issues with the closure of the Henley Bridge. Everyone is invited.
