KPD Officer of the Month for June

Posted: 08/19/2011
Knoxville Mayor Daniel Brown and Police Chief David Rausch today named Officer Brian Headrick the June Officer of the Month for the Knoxville Police Department. Officer Headrick has been with KPD since May 2002.

Chief Rausch said that on June 2, 2011, at approximately 6:00 p.m., Officer Headrick was continuing his efforts to investigate an increase of gun crimes near the 2400 block of Linden Avenue. Officer Headrick had developed information that one subject had been responsible for two separate shootings in this neighborhood the day before. Officer Headrick located that subject standing near a vehicle on Linden Avenue.

Chief Rausch said, "Officer Headrick gave the suspect verbal commands to step away from the vehicle. Instead of following the demand, the suspect moved to the back of the vehicle where he removed a black pistol from his pants and tossed it into the vehicle."

The suspect was charged with possession of a weapon with intent to go armed. The suspect also had a no contact order of protection and was prohibited from possessing a firearm.

A few hours later Officer Headrick responded to a robbery of the Shoney's located on Chapman Highway. Officer Headrick was able to obtain information that helped locate the owner of the vehicle used in the robbery.

Armed with this new information, Officer Headrick along with several additional officers located two additional suspects hiding in the basement of a residence near Sutherland Avenue. All three suspects were charged with multiple robberies.

Chief Rausch said, "Officer Headrick's use of a variety of resources was instrumental in removing these dangerous individuals from the community."
