Mayor-Elect Rogero Appoints Police and Fire Chiefs

Posted: 12/09/2011
Mayor-elect Madeline Rogero announced the appointments of current Police Chief David Rausch and Fire Chief Stan Sharp to serve in her administration.

"I am very pleased that Chief Rausch and Chief Sharp will continue their service to our city," Rogero said. "Employees and the public alike can have confidence from day one in the experienced leadership of these outstanding public safety professionals."

Rausch became chief of police in March 2011 after serving as deputy chief and patrol division commander. He has 22 years experience in military and civilian law enforcement, 14 of those in supervisory and command positions.

He has a BA in political science and a master's in administration of justice, both from the University of Louisville. He is a 2004 graduate of the FBI National Academy.

"Mayor-elect Rogero shares every police officer's commitment to protecting our citizens and making neighborhoods even safer," Rausch said. "Our department looks forward to working with her in our continuing efforts to maintain a high standard of professionalism as well as the support of the public."

Sharp became fire chief in 2009 after serving as assistant chief and fire department safety officer. He joined the department in 1996 and rose through the ranks from firefighter to chief. He earned his bachelor's in agriculture biology and master's degree in life sciences/environmental toxicology from the University of Tennessee.

"The mayor-elect has always been a strong advocate for the men and women in uniform," Sharp said. "We are confident that the fire department goal of protecting life and property will be strongly supported in the new mayor's office."
