Mayor-elect Madeline Rogero appointed Knoxville attorney Charles W. Swanson to the key position of city law director.
Swanson, a partner with Sheppeard Swanson & Mynatt law firm, has served for more than 26 years as special counsel to Knoxville City Council. Swanson also served as assistant city attorney from 1982 to 1984 and as special judge and referee of Knox County Juvenile Court from 1979 to 1982.
"Charles Swanson is highly respected by his peers in the legal profession and by those who have worked with him in his role as counsel to City Council," Rogero said. "He is uniquely qualified to fill this important position, and I will rely heavily on his legal experience." Swanson was president of the Tennessee Bar Association from 2004 to 2005 and president of the Knoxville Bar Association in 2002. He also was president of the Hamilton Burnett American Inn of Court in 1998 to 1999 and president of the Knoxville Barristers in 1989. He is a Rule 31 Mediator.
