A portion of Shrewsbury Drive near its intersection with Woods Smith Road will remain closed until the end of next week, March 18, while crews replace a large pipe running beneath the road there.
That section of the road was closed on Sunday, March 6, when it began to collapse after the metal pipe failed. The pipe, which is seven feet high, carries a small creek underneath Shrewsbury.
The City of Knoxville's Public Service Department received delivery of five, eight-foot-long sections of concrete pipe with an 84-inch diameter today but conditions in the creek will prevent installation until next week.
