Change Your Clocks, Change Your Smoke Alarm Battery

Posted: 11/02/2012
Give yourself and your family a fighting chance to survive a residential fire by keeping your first line of defense working by changing the batteries in your smoke alarm.

A properly working smoke alarm can save lives by alerting you of a fire early, allowing you valuable time to exit a structure.

The City of Knoxville Fire Department will install residential smoke alarms in single family dwellings for any person inside the city limits free of charge by calling 865-595-4672.

With cold months ahead of us and daylight savings going into effect, this is the perfect time to remember to change the batteries in your smoke alarms.

Here are some fire facts; The leading cause of residential fire (52%) start around the kitchen while cooking. The second leading cause comes from careless heating practices, followed by smoking in the home. Knowing where a fire is most likely to break out, an individual can focus their attention on those areas and hopefully prevent a fire from ever occurring.
