Young-Williams Animal Center will close its adoption facilities for the day on Wednesday, Nov. 7, for routine cleaning and building maintenance, and will reopen on Thursday, Nov. 8, with a special election-themed adoption promotion.

Both Young-Williams Animal Center at 3201 Division St. and Young-Williams Animal Village at 6400 Kingston Pike will be closed to the public on Nov. 7. The shelters will reopen on Thursday, Nov. 8, and will remain open during regular business hours from noon-6 p.m. daily.

The public is invited to visit Young-Williams' adoption facilities on Nov. 8 for its "Elect to Adopt" event, a special promotion encouraging community members to elect to adopt a pet rather than purchase one at a for-profit pet store. Everyone who brings in their "I Voted" sticker from the 2012 Presidential Election will receive $10 off any regular pet adoption fee.

"We encourage East Tennesseans to practice their right to vote in this year's election," said Amy Johnston, director of outreach for Young-Williams Animal Center.

"Just as you have a choice in the election, you have a choice whether to buy or adopt a pet. We encourage potential pet parents to consider the benefits of pet adoption. Not only does your adoption fee include a spay or neuter surgery and other veterinary services, but you'll also be saving the life of animal in need - an animal who wants to give you unconditional love and affection. This year, elect to adopt!"
