City, County Unveil West Hills Viewing Pavilion

Posted: 08/14/2013
Mayor Madeline Rogero and Knox County Mayor Tim Burchett held a ribbon-cutting today to mark the completion of the viewing pavilion at West Hills Tennis Center in West Hills Park, located at 410 N. Winston Road.

Knox County funded the $40,000-plus project, which is part of Phase II work of the West Hills Tennis Center in the City-owned West Hills Park.

"This viewing pavilion is a great complement to the improvements that have already been made at West Hills Park," said Mayor Rogero. "We are grateful that Knox County helped to fund this project, which will be enjoyed by tennis enthusiasts and the community at large."

The pavilion overlooks both the upper and lower tennis courts and offers spectators a place to watch tennis matches out of the elements.

"The viewing pavilion at the West Hills Tennis Center will not only provide covered space for the community to enjoy the popular tennis facilities at this park, but is also a testament to the ongoing partnership between the City of Knoxville and Knox County," said Mayor Burchett.

The project, overseen by the Public Building Authority, was completed by contractor Rich Construction, Inc., and City Public Service crews.

The pavilion serves as an extension of Phase II of the West Hills Tennis Center (the construction of the clubhouse and restrooms) opened last Fall, which was preceded by Phase I in 2008 when the upper tennis courts were renovated. Phase III will include the renovation of the existing lower courts as well as additional courts.
