City Hosts Youth Basketball Championships and Skills Challenge

Posted: 02/22/2013
City of Knoxville Parks and Recreation will host the City Youth Basketball Championships this weekend Friday, February 22nd, beginning at 6:15 p.m., and Saturday, February 23rd, beginning at 9 a.m. Games will be held at the Knoxville Adaptive Education Center, located at 5719 Kingston Pike.

In an interesting twist this year, all eight of the City's youth basketball commissions were invited and encouraged to develop teams for the City's first-ever Basketball Skills Challenge, which will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday.

8U/10U - (five players) Each team will have a minimum of two 8u players, two 10u players, and encouraged to have one girl. All players will dribble, pass/catch, make lay-ups. Each team will make three free throws and one three-pointer. The two fastest teams will make the final.
12U/14U - (five players) Each team will have a minimum of two 12u players and two 14u players. All players will dribble, pass/catch, make lay-ups. Then, each team will make three free throws and two- and three-pointers. The two fastest teams will make the final.

17U Three-Point Contest - (8-10 players) Just like the NBA Three-Point Contest, each player will shoot five three-pointers from five locations around the arc. The 5th ball in each location is the "money ball" and is worth two points. The two highest scores will advance to finals.
