To reduce or eliminate the long-term risks of natural hazards, the City of Knoxville, Knox County and the Town of Farragut developed a Multi-Jurisdictional Local Hazard Mitigation Plan in 2011. Each year the plan must undergo review and be updated, if necessary.
Based on recommendations by the Hazard Mitigation Planning Committee, the plan will include the following changes for 2013-2014.
Update the members of the Hazard Mitigation Planning Committee regarding those who have had a change in employment and are no longer available to serve Update effective Flood Insurance Rate Map date to reflect recent map revisions Update Appendix D with adopted resolutions Perform general housekeeping to the written plan, such as corrected spelling, grammar and clarifications where needed.
The Multi-Jurisdictional Local Hazard Mitigation Plan replaces the Flood Management Plan, completed in 2005, which is a requirement for the City of Knoxville. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) mandates that the City have a plan due to the number of repetitive FEMA flood insurance claims made within the Knoxville community. The Multi-Jurisdictional Local Hazard Mitigation Plan also gives Knoxville eligibility for FEMA Hazard Mitigation Assistance Grant programs.
