July 2, 2014 - Mayor Madeline Rogero made the following board appointments in May and June:
Barbara Ray, appointed to the Knox County Tax Equalization Board. Ray is a Knoxville native who studied business at the University of Tennessee. She is retired from Norfolk Southern Railway. She is on the Board of Fountain City Ministry Center, Fountain City Town Hall, and the Dogwood Arts Festival. Her term runs through March 1, 2016.
The Knox County Tax Equalization Board serves as board of appeals for property owners who disagree with the tax assessment issued by the Knox County Property Assessor's Office.
John Donaldson, appointed to the Knox County Tax Equalization Board. Donaldson earned a bachelor's degree in education from Knoxville College and a master's degree in education from Michigan State University. He worked in the education field for more than 30 years before retiring in 1991. He has served on the City of Knoxville Better Building Board, as well as the Knox County Tax Equalization Board as an alternate member. He is currently a member of the Knoxville/Knox County Community Action Committee. His term runs through March 1, 2016.
Mark Allan, appointed to the Mayor's Council on Disability Issues. He is the Owner of Allan Associates Architects, PLLC. The Firm focuses on Low Income Housing Rehabilitation renovating existing multi-family housing to comply with building codes, energy standards and accessibility. One of Allan's children has an intellectual disability and is the driving force behind his commitment to improving the living environment for people with disabilities. His term runs through June 30, 2017.
The Mayor's Council on Disability Issues serves as an advisory group to provide direction and guidance to the Mayor and City Council in matters concerning persons with disabilities.
Larry Austin, appointed to the Mayor's Council on Disability Issues. Austin is CEO of Austin and Associates and a Registered Representative and Independent Investment Advisor. As an amputee himself, Austin has a keen interest in helping those with limb loss live fully functional lives and has advocated on behalf of the amputee community. His term runs through June 30, 2017.
Judi Brookshire, appointed to the Mayor's Council on Disability Issues. Brookshire is Director of the Comprehensive Education Resource Center at the Tennessee School for the Deaf, and has been an advocate for individuals with disabilities for more 25 years. She was the social worker for the Pediatric Language Clinic when her own son was diagnosed with autism. She has served on the state Autism Society board, the Autism Society of East Tennessee (board member, and Chair), and Breakthrough (founder, board member and Co-Chair). Her term runs through June 30, 2017.
Wendy Hector, appointed to the Mayor's Council on Disability Issues. Hector is an amputee who is active in the amputee peer support program at the Patricia Neal Rehabilitation Center. She is also a member of the Challenge Accepted support group and enjoys the role of being a voice for people who are living and thriving with limb loss in our community. Her term runs through June 30, 2017.
Terri Newman, appointed to the Mayor's Council on Disability Issues. Newman has been a registered nurse for 31 years and currently works with United Health Care as a case manager, coordinating services for members who are transitioning from the hospital to their home. She helps to arrange home health care and other supportive services through Tenncare/Medicaid. Her term runs through June 30, 2017.
Warren Secrest, appointed to the Mayor's Council on Disability Issues. Secrest is manager of volunteer assisted transportation for the Knoxville-Knox County CAC Office on Aging. He has an in-depth knowledge of the transportation needs of the elderly, as well extensive knowledge about available transportation resources and other programs. His term runs through June 30, 2017.
Becky Hancock, appointed to the board of Visit Knoxville. Hancock is a Knoxville native educated at the University of Tennessee. With more than a decade of fund development, event planning, and project management experience in the nonprofit sector, she currently serves as the Executive Director of the Historic Tennessee Theatre Foundation. Her term runs through June 30, 2015.
Visit Knoxville is the destination marketing organization for Knoxville and Knox County.
Christi Branscom, appointed to the Knoxville Golf Course Advisory Committee. Branscom is Chief Operating Officer and Deputy to the Mayor, City of Knoxville. She is also president of Partners Development and founder of Grace Construction. She graduated with honors in finance from the University of Tennessee and earned her law degree from the University of Memphis.
The Knoxville City Golf Course Advisory Committee is an ad hoc committee that offers advice to the appropriate authorities concerning issues relative to equipping, maintaining and operating the various municipal golf facilities.
