City to Host 9th Annual Teen Step Show at Civic Auditorium

Posted: 02/12/2014
February 12, 2014 - At 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 1st, the City of Knoxville will host the 9th Annual Dr. E.V. Davidson Teen Step Show at the Knoxville Civic Auditorium.

Every year, teens from Tennessee and surrounding states showcase their best moves and compete for the chance to take home prizes.

In the past few years, this much-anticipated event has drawn an audience of about 2,000 spectators. The event's radio sponsor, HOT 104.5, will have radio personality Joey Tack kick off the show with a crowd teaser.

City Parks and Recreation Department staff began this event not only to encourage fitness and friendly competition, but to also give students a glimpse of what to expect as college students.

The City partners with the University of Tennessee to give Step Show contestants an exclusive tour of the university's campus. There are small scholarships offered to the team and individual with the best GPA average.

Local African American fraternity and sorority members volunteer their time to support the event.

Also known as the "Divine 9" organizations, Alpha Phi Alpha, Alpha Kappa Alpha, Kappa Alpha Psi, Omega Psi Phi, Delta Sigma Theta, Phi Beta Sigma, Zeta Phi Beta, Sigma Gamma Rho and Iota Phi Theta send Step Show competitors a message of team camaraderie and community service.

Tickets are $8 in advance, $10 on the day of the show. To order a ticket in advance, call the Civic Auditorium at 865-656-4444 or visit www.knoxvilletickets.com
