Downtown Dog Park Gets Solar-Powered Lights

Posted: 12/22/2014
December 22, 2014 - Downtown dogs and their owners have received an early Christmas present - a fully lit dog park!

Solar-powered lights have been installed in the dog park at Summit Hill Drive and Central Street, as part of the City's continuing cooperative partnership with PetSafe.

Why solar-powered lights? The ground underneath the dog park is crisscrossed with several types of buried utility lines. By installing stand-alone solar-powered lights, the City avoided the costs associated with surveying, routing and burying traditional power lines. Plus, there's the benefit of going green and operating lights that are not on the grid.

But the most important benefit, of course, is to the dogs of downtown Knoxville and their owners. During the winter months, days are short, and it's often dark outside when owners come home from work and Fido's wanting to go to the dog park. With the new lights, dog owners and their pups can now enjoy the park at any time of the day.
