Keep Knoxville Beautiful Kicks Off Beautification Mobs

Posted: 04/29/2014
April 29, 2014 - Inspired by the flash mob and cash mob calls to action, KKB inaugurates its Beautification Mob Program with its first Mob project at the entrance to the Old City at the corner of Summit Hill Drive and Central Avenue. The project kicks off Thursday May 8 with a Ground Breaking hosted by the Knoxville Chamber at 10:00am, and volunteers will complete the landscaping on Saturday May 10 starting at 8:00am. Please contact Keep Knoxville Beautiful to volunteer to help on May 10. The project is sponsored by Carex Design Group, Robin Easter Design, and the Old City Neighborhood Association and in cooperation with the property owner, Hatcher-Hill Properties.

Knoxville's outstanding public green spaces, the Urban Wilderness outdoor recreation attraction, and inspired downtown development have contributed to Knoxville emerging as a premier urban ecotourism destination. One impediment to the growth of our ecotourism business is the negative impression created by littered and unsightly high-visibility roadside locations throughout our community. Working with community organizers, volunteers will remove trash, landscape, and conduct routine maintenance, once again focusing on high visibility locations along major transportation portals to the City and County.

KKB invites the community to nominate locations and volunteer for KKB's Beautification Mob Program.

Criteria for nomination and selection will include:

* unsightly vegetated spaces
* high visibility / high profile locations preferably at major transportation portals into and out of Knoxville
* space limited in area (no more than 500 sf)
* suited to low-profile landscaping options
* owner(s) amenable to access
* volunteers willing to adopt, beautify and maintain

Anyone may nominate a location or volunteer simply by sending an email stating the details of the proposed location to KKB Executive Director Allison Teeters at [email protected] or dial 865-521-6957. Suggested locations for Beautification Mob attention will be screened and locations selected by the KKB Board of Directors and staff. Send in your suggestions and look out for updates at the KKB website www.keepknoxvillebeautiful.org and on Facebook. And help us and your neighbors make a cleaner, greener and more beautiful Knoxville.
