January 10, 2014 - The City of Knoxville has received an award from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for presentation of the City's current budget.
It's the 26th consecutive year that the City has received GFOA's Distinguished Budget Presentation Award, which GFOA says "reflects the commitment of the governing body and staff to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting."
The City's budget preparers met guidelines for effective budget presentation. The guidelines assessed how well an entity's budget serves as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide and a communications device.
GFOA, based in Chicago, is a nonprofit association that promotes financial policies and best practices among professional managers in government. It serves more than 17,800 government finance professionals throughout North America.
GFOA presented the award to City Finance Director Jim York.
