Posted: 07/01/2014
July 1, 2014 - The City of Knoxville celebrates the 30th Anniversary of Festival on the Fourth. The free festival begins Friday, July 4, at 4 p.m. and ends at 10 p.m., at the conclusion of the fireworks display.

In addition to celebrating Independence Day, several other exciting events will be going on.

In remembrance of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, several participants of Freedom Summer 1964 will lead a commemorative march beginning at 6 p.m. July 2, on Howard Baker Drive and ending at Mount Olive Baptist Church.

Then, at 7 p.m., participants will speak at a celebration at Mt. Olive Baptist. The day marks the exact anniversary of the signing of the Civil Rights Act on July 2, 1964, by President Lyndon Johnson.

The Pilot Fireball Moonlight Classic will be held Thursday evening, July 3. Starting at 9:00 pm, the late evening race is open to competitive racers, casual runners, and those who just want to have a fun evening.
