The consultants' findings led to a recommendation from Mayor Madeline Rogero to increase as of Feb. 1 the pay scales that are low, as compared with Knoxville's counterpart cities. City Council met in a Dec. 4 workshop to discuss the Segal Waters findings and is scheduled to vote on the Mayor's recommendations in January 2015.
The Segal Waters study found that Knoxville police officers on average earn 86 cents for every dollar earned by their peers in other cities, while Knoxville firefighters overall earn 87 cents for every dollar earned by their peers. Mayor Rogero is recommending adjustments that would pay City of Knoxville employees 95 percent of what their peers on average are earning.
