Extended work has been scheduled this week on sections of 17th Street and White Avenue, while a previously-scheduled storm drain installation is underway that has closed a section of North 22nd Street.
Work on two projects that began last week will be renewed this week:
• Starting Wednesday, Sept. 23, there will be intermittent short-term partial closures on a section of 17th Street near White Avenue and Clinch Avenue as underground utilities are mapped out in preparation of new traffic signals being installed.
• From 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, a section of White Avenue between 17th and 18th streets will be closed due to work associated with construction of The Standard, a 240-plus-unit apartment complex being built on the southwest corner of 17th Street and White Avenue. The daytime closure will limit after-hour noise.
Meanwhile, the installation of a 30-inch storm drain across North 22nd Street is proceeding on schedule this week. Through Sunday, Sept. 27, North 22nd Street will be closed between Cumberland Avenue and the driveways to Exxon and the Cook Out to accommodate the installation.
The timing of the project coincides with the University of Tennessee football team playing this Saturday at the University of Florida, so North 22nd Street will not be closed during a home football game.
Through Sunday, there will be no access to or from 22nd Street on the north side of Cumberland Avenue, but traffic flow on Cumberland itself is not affected. The Exxon and Cook Out will have entrances to their parking lots open from 22nd Street.
The sidewalk will be open on the east side of N. 22nd Street.
