City Crews Salting Streets, Garbage Routes Behind, KAT Buses on Snow Routes

Posted: 02/18/2015
Snow is falling again this morning, and the City's Public Service crews are again salting Level I and II streets. They're also working on treacherous sidewalks, and there are lots of reports of downed trees and limbs.

Waste Connections, the City of Knoxville's household garbage and recycling contractor, has suspended collections for the remainder of the day because of dangerous road and weather conditions. They will work through this weekend to get caught up on this week's collections.

KAT buses are running on Snow Routes this morning. Most routes are running, with some route alterations to avoid slick spots.

KUB crews are working to restore power to 2,427 electric customers. The trend is encouraging: Tuesday morning, 20,000 customers were without power; by Tuesday night, that number dropped to 6,000; it was 3,000 by 3 a.m. today. Crews are working around the clock to restore power to the remaining customers.

KUB has suspended disconnections for non-payment, so don't risk driving to drop off your payment! KUB's payment center at the I-640 Plaza is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today, but payment centers on Asheville Highway and downtown are closed today while staffers are redeployed to help with power restoration efforts.
