Due to frequent rains in late October and early November, a contractor has been given a two-week extension to reopen a section of Island Home Avenue.
The contractor, Empire Construction, is realigning the road and installing underground gas, water and sewer lines, as well as constructing an 800-foot-long public riverwalk and a new public road, Splendid View Circle.
Muddy conditions in recent weeks has slowed the work, which is associated with the building of the River’s Edge 134-unit apartment complex, a $14 million private investment on the South Waterfront.
The City of Knoxville has extended the permit for the closure of Island Home Avenue between Sevier Avenue and Maplewood Drive through Nov. 30.
