Due to utility maintenance, KUB will have the following road closures:
Cumberland Avenue Lane Closures [July 22-23] – KUB crews will close a short section of the curbside, eastbound lane of Cumberland Avenue between Nineteenth Street and Twentieth Street from 9 p.m. tonight, Wednesday, July 22, until 6 a.m., Thursday, July 23, as work is performed on the water distribution system in the area. One eastbound lane and both westbound lanes will remain open during this time.
Morrell Road Lane Closures [July 23-24] – KUB and its contractor will reduce Morrell Road to one alternating lane of traffic between S. Northshore Drive and Rocky Hill Road from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Thursday, July 23, and Friday, July 24, for roadway restoration. The northbound lane will be closed, and the southbound lane will remain open and be used to alternate traffic.
Downtown Century II Utilities Upgrade Project – State Street & Cumberland Avenue Intersection Closure [EXTENDED July 23-24] – KUB and its contractor will maintain a continuous closure of the State Street and Cumberland Avenue intersection to traffic until 6 p.m., Friday, July 23, as work continues on the Downtown Century II Utilities Upgrade project. This intersection has been closed since Monday, July 20. Cumberland Avenue between S. Gay Street and the First Tennessee Plaza parking garage will be reversed traffic flow to allow access to the garage entrance ONLY. Note: The far righthand lane westbound lane on the upper half of Cumberland Avenue between the alleyway and S. Gay Street will be maintained for egress of delivery vehicles from First Tennessee Plaza. All traffic exiting the garage will be directed onto Main Street. As part of this closure, the following will also be in place:
Road Closure - State Street between Cumberland Avenue and Main Street. Alternate routes include Neyland Drive, W. Summit Hill Drive, Henley Street, Main Street, S. Gay Street, Union Avenue, and Clinch Avenue. Motorist should follow all traffic signs and flaggers in the area. Please see attached map for more information. Follow up advisories will be issued as necessary.
Downtown Century II Utilities Upgrade Project – Maplehurst Court Road Closure [EXTENDED July 23-24] – KUB and its contractor will maintain closure of Maplehurst Court to traffic from 6 a.m. – 6 p.m. on Thursday, July 23, and Friday, July 24, as work continues on the Downtown Century II Utilities Upgrade Project. No street parking will be available during work hours, but will be available nights and weekends. Violators will be towed. Follow up advisories will be issued as necessary.
(Northwest Knoxville) Clinton Highway Lane Closures [July 23-25] – KUB crews will implement the following closures continuously beginning at 9 p.m. Thursday, July 23, through 12 p.m., Saturday, July 25, as work is performed on the water distribution system in the area.
• The outside southbound lane of Clinton Highway at the Merchant Drive intersection.
• The left turn lane of northbound traffic on Clinton Highway at the Merchant Drive intersection. Westbound Merchant Drive traffic will be detoured onto northbound Clinton Highway to McClain Drive and Fredonia Road.
• The westbound lane of Merchant Drive at the Clinton Highway intersection. Westbound Merchant Drive traffic will be detoured onto northbound Clinton Highway to McClain Drive and Fredonia Road.
• One lane of traffic on Merchant Drive between the Clinton Highway intersection and Tillery Road remains closed continuously through August 9.
Downtown Century II Utilities Upgrade Project – State Street Road Closure [July 23-29] – KUB crews will close a short section of State Street between Clinch Avenue and W. Church Avenue from 6 a.m. Thursday, July 23, through 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 29, as work continues on the Downtown Century II Utilities Upgrade project. As part of this work, crews will be working in Journal Place between S. Gay Street and State Street. Alternate routes include W. Church Avenue, S. Gay Street, Union Avenue, and S. Central Street. Motorist should follow all traffic signs in the area.
Some listed closures may extend beyond the scheduled times depending on the conditions encountered during excavation and construction. Appropriate traffic control measures will be in place at each location to assist motorists traveling in these areas. Due to the ongoing presence of workers and equipment, motorists are advised to use extreme caution and expect temporary delays in these areas.
