South Central Street will be closed from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 9, between Summit Hill Drive and Union Avenue.
A crew will be digging an 18-foot-deep trench for a new stormwater pipe as part of the construction of the Marble Alley apartment complex and City Streetscape improvements that will follow. The new pipe will improve the stormwater drainage of several downtown blocks.
The dig had originally been slated for one day last week but was rescheduled to Sept. 9.
Two public downtown garages with entrances off Central Street will remain easily accessible. Southbound motorists on Central wishing to access the State Street Garage should detour left onto Summit Hill Drive, right onto Hall of Fame Drive, right onto Church Avenue and right onto State Street. Motorists wishing to access the Dwight Kessel Garage should detour left onto Summit Hill, right onto Hall of Fame and right onto Hill Avenue.
