A one-block section of Laurel Avenue will be closed Wednesday morning, while one of the three lanes in a one-block section of 16th Street will be closed for 5 1/2 weeks.
Wednesday’s complete closure of Laurel Avenue between 19th and 20th streets is to accommodate a crane that will lifting a chiller onto the roof of a building on the Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center campus. The closure is scheduled from 7 a.m. to noon.
Garage entrances and exits will remain open. The south sidewalk on Laurel Avenue will be closed, but the north sidewalk will remain open.
Then, starting at 9 a.m. Thursday, work on the University of Tennessee’s Steam Line project will prompt alternating lane closures on 16th Street between White and Cumberland avenues. The work is to be completed by Nov. 6.
However, all three lanes on 16th Street will be open on Saturdays when there is a home UT football game, although parking spaces may be closed on the west side of the street.
