A sinkhole that collapsed a section of West Church Avenue in downtown Knoxville after heavy rains Tuesday afternoon will require partial street and lane closures through the end of next week.
City of Knoxville and KUB construction crews will be working to repair the collapsed section of Church Avenue just west of Gay Street, and install a new storm sewer pipe along the 700 block of Gay Street between Church and Cumberland avenues.
While the work is being done, West Church Avenue will remain closed between Gay Street and Market Street. The pipe installation will require the partial closure of one southbound lane of Gay Street between Church and Cumberland avenues, starting tonight.
