Vote for Movies on Market Square

Posted: 08/20/2015
Movies on Market SquareKnox County Public Library’s Movies on Market Square is coming back for its 12th year. On September 11, the Library will launch the 2015 season of family-friendly outdoor movies. On five Friday nights from September 11-October 16*, the public is invited to bring the whole family, including their favorite, well behaved four-pawed, tail-wagging companion, to see a free movie presented by Lusid Media.

The public will decide the lineup through an online vote at www.knoxlib.org/movies  or at polling stations at all Knox County Public Library locations. Contenders include movies in the following categories: Action-Adventure, Children's/Animation, Grab Bag, and Sports. Squaring off are Butch Cassidy and Miss Daisy, Penguins of Madagascar and Nanny McPhee, the Karate Kid and Spider-Man. May the best line up win.

Voting begins today and runs through August 28 at www.knoxlib.org/movies.  The winning lineup will be announced on September 3 on www.knoxlib.org and through media outlets.

Lusid Media, a fast-growing producer of cable network shows, has joined Knox County Public Library for the third year as the presenting sponsor of Movies on Market Square. "We love being a part of downtown Knoxville -- and the library is a great resource for our community -- so we're excited to help sponsor this event. What could be better than bringing our town together to enjoy some great movies and celebrate our great libraries," commented Zak Weisfeld, president of Lusid Media.

Knox County Public Library could not produce this free outdoor movie series without the generous support of its sponsors: Lusid Media, Downtown Knoxville, The Trust Company, The Tomato Head, Pilot Flying J,  the City of Knoxville, KUB, Springboard Audiovisual, GO Knoxville!  WBIR, and B97.5.

The Library produces Movies on Market Square to highlight its vast movie and music collection. With over 13,000 titles of feature films, documentaries, TV shows, and how-to films, the movie collection is one of the most popular circulating collections at the Library. Downloadable resources of ebooks, audiobooks and streaming music have grown in popularity and continue to be a focus of collection development for Knox County Public Library.

*Please note that there will be no movie on October 2; however, the public is invited to a free concert by The Black Lillies on Market Square celebrating their latest CD release.
