Wide Variety of Saturday Events Downtown Prompts Temporary Street Closures

Four events - a 1,000-foot padded vinyl slip-and-slide, a beer brewing festival, a gay pride parade and a weekly farmers’ market - will bring a range of fun events to downtown on Saturday, June 20, along with a few street closures.

Below are event details and road closure information:

SLIDE THE CITY

Event information: Noon to 5 p.m. near the Civic Coliseum, 500 Howard Baker Jr. Ave. This water-slide event aims to cool down summer’s sizzle, as well as offer music, dancing, food, drinks and swag that attendees can purchase. The event partners with East Tennessee Children’s Hospital.

Road closures: Howard Baker Jr. Avenue between Hall of Fame and Hill avenues will be closed 3 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday.

5TH ANNUAL KNOXVILLE BREWFEST 

Event information: 4-8 p.m. on Depot Avenue and the Gay Street Viaduct, overlooking the Southern Railway Station and the Old City. Sample fresh beers of all colors, styles and flavors. All net proceeds benefit Cure Duchenne.

Road closures: Gay Street between Jackson and Magnolia avenues is closed 7 a.m. to midnight Saturday; Depot Avenue between Williams and Conrad streets also is closed 7 a.m. to midnight Saturday. A temporary no-parking zone on the Gay Street Viaduct begins at 5 a.m. Saturday.

10TH ANNIVERSARY KNOXVILLE PRIDEFEST

Event information: 1-8 p.m., World’s Fair Park Performance Lawn. Pride Parade starts at noon. Celebration with music, entertainment and speakers focused on promoting equality and inclusion of all people.

Road closures: Temporary rolling closures following the parade route: Jackson Avenue to Gay Street; Gay to Clinch Avenue; Clinch to World’s Fair Park.

MARKET SQUARE FARMERS' MARKET

Event information: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Market Square. The market - featuring locally-grown produce, local meats and dairy products, handmade crafts, nursery plants, and mobile food trucks - is celebrating its 12th season.

Road closures: Market Street between Clinch and Union avenues will be closed from 6:45 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday; Union Avenue between Walnut and Gay streets will be closed from 6:45 a.m. to 3 p.m. Temporary no-parking zones on Market Street and Union Avenue begin at 5 a.m.
