City of Knoxville offices will be closed Monday, December 26 for the Christmas holiday and Monday, January 2, 2017 for the New Year holiday.
Waste Connections, the City's household garbage and recycling collector will run normal operations the week of December 26 and the week of January 2. There will be no disruption to residential garbage or recycling collection over the holidays. Residents should use their City-issued carts for trash pickup starting January 2, 2017. They should have all garbage placed in bags in the cart with the lid shut and taken to their normal pickup location with the handle facing toward the house. Garbage carts should not block sidewalks or cause traffic safety issues, and should be a minimum of three feet away from other objects.
Downtown trash and recycling will not be picked up on Sunday, December 25. Collections will resume on Monday, December 26. Downtown trash and recycling will run on its regular schedule beginning January 1.
The City's recycling centers will be open for recycling use but the Goodwill attendant will be available for household goods donations for ½ day on Saturday, December 24, and Saturday, December 31; the center will be unstaffed but open for recycling drop-off on Sunday, December 25 and Sunday, January 1.
The City's Solid Waste Management Facility located at 1033 Elm Street will be closed on Saturday, December 24 through Monday, December 26, with normal hours resuming on Tuesday, December 27. For the New Year’s holiday, the Facility will be closed on Saturday, December 31, through Monday, January 2, with normal hours resuming Tuesday, January 3.
“Free for City Residents” at the Solid Waste Management Facility will be on January 7, 2017, the first Saturday of the month. This service is for City of Knoxville residents only – please no contractors, and no shingles.
